Hillsborough, NC (February 4, 2016) – Orange County Health Department’s Dental Clinic received a $1,500 Smiles for Kids grant from the Delta Dental Foundation that will help the Clinic promote its services to local pediatric practices and Orange County schools with the highest Free and Reduced Lunch Programs.
The clinic serves the most vulnerable population in Orange County: children whose parents are of low-income and are uninsured. Through collaboration with pediatricians and screening initiatives, the Clinic will provide oral health services, such as examinations, cleanings, fluoride varnish applications and sealants.
“We are grateful for the continued support of Delta Dental. This grant will allow us to serve more children with fluoride varnish application, sealants, and oral health screenings through our partnership with the Orange County School System,” said Dr. Michael Day, Dental Director.
The Delta Dental Foundation focuses on ensuring children and adults in North Carolina receive high-quality oral health education and dental care. The Orange County grant is one of 17 grants totaling $40,000 awarded to North Carolina nonprofits providing oral health programs. Grant recipients were selected based on criteria that included the number of at-risk children served, the uniqueness of the program, the level of community involvement in the program and the ability to measure results.
“Many communities across North Carolina face challenges with providing all children in need of oral health care with the services they require,” Delta Dental of North Carolina CEO Curtis Ladig said. “The Smiles for Kids program helps organizations like Orange County Health Department’s Dental Clinic address that need and close the gap between those with access and those without.”
